The Governors Ball 2014

Photo Jun 09, 12 04 59 PM

This year I attended Governors Ball with a bit of hesitation- after last year’s Mud Ball, where the only thing I could wear was rain boots for 3 days, I was really doubting going despite how great the lineup could have been. However, with gorgeous weather that held up through the amazing 3 days, I am definitely happy I went.

Not only was the music great, obviously, but this was the first year I actually paid attention to the amount of food vendors (taco trucks & hot dog stands). I have never seen so many people with colored hair in one place before… I think everyone must have been pinning from the same Pinterest board because the lilac ombré was off the charts… as well as knee high gladiator sandals, pig tail buns, big round sunglasses, floral snap-backs, and all things Nasty Gal.

Here’s my outfit menu for the 3 days:

Day 1 Outfit: SUNGLASSES| Wildfox, TOP & KIMONO| Made them myself, SHORTS| Citizens of Humanity, CUFF & RING| Ambrosio Jewelry, SHOES| Vans

Day 2 Outfit: SUNGLASSES| Warby Parker, CUFF| Sabrina SL, NECKLACE| Ambrosio Jewelry, RING Catbird, DRESS|Made it myself, SHOES| Nike, BAG| Urban Outfitters

Day 3 Outfit: HAT| Free People, SUNGLASSES| Warby Parker, NECKLACES| Sabrina SL, TOP| American Apparel, SHORTS| Made them myself, SHOES| Vans

    Hi Jessi!

I somehow stumbled across your blog while looking for reviews of Vans this evening. I am looking at purchasing my very first pair! I have read all sorts of stories on various websites about Vans making feet really sweaty so I have been hesitant to buy a pair in the past. Has this been your experience with Vans or are your feet always sweat-free when you wear them?

Fantastic website, by the way! You have a new fan!

    Sarah.

    • Hi Sarah!
I’m so glad to hear you like my site!!
Here’s my experience with Vans- they’re solid. I’ve had the little basic canvas shoes bought cheap from urban outfitters and H&M, but those don’t even size up to the comfort and durability in vans (so far). When I first got mine I panicked because I thought they were too big.. I asked around and everyone said to stick to getting your normal shoe size, they are roomy, but that’s perfect in the summer because your feet get hot and swell. I honestly don’t have much of a problem. I wash my shoes frequently because I wear them without socks constantly. Go for them. You won’t be disappointed!

Thank you so much for the excellent advice and for sharing your experiences with me. I appreciate the time you took to respond to my question!

I am actually not a sock person myself. I used to own a pair of Converse years ago but when I wore them without socks my friends and family would always comment on how bad my feet smelled when I took them off! Not a good way to keep friends! Haha! I washed them regularly, too…

I know we are all different, but how often do your Vans cause your feet to sweat? Have you experienced any odor issues from wearing them with no socks for an extended period of time and/or on a hot day? They look so comfy but I hate the feeling of sweaty feet…

        • I mean they do a little- a governors ball I wore my black ones and felt like when I took them off they smelled, no one else noticed. There are a lot if thins you can do to get rid of that. Use baking soda when washing! My mom just told me that yesterday actually. Other remedies help with that.

I honestly haven’t noticed my feet feeling abnormally hot or anything like that- maybe now I will pay more attention but I guess that says something that it has gone unnoticed. Baby powder in the shoes also helps with sweating.
